What do the 10 most popular smartphones currently on sale in Japan have in common? They're all iPhones.
In the latest BCN weekly chart of the best-selling smartphones across all of Japan's network operators, the iPhone is the only handset on show.
According to tech site Electronista, which has been following the list for some time, it is the first time in the history of its weekly ranking charts that one smartphone brand has taken each of the top 10 spots. This huge spike in popularity is due in part to the fact that Japan's biggest mobile operator, NTT Docomo, has only just started offering the handset, despite the fact that the iPhone recently celebrated its seventh birthday.
As a result, the 32GB iPhone 5S from the operator is the most popular smartphone on sale in Japan at the moment (the NTT Docomo iPhone 5S with 16GB of internal storage is currently in ninth place), while network operator SoftBank's 16GB iPhone 5C is in second place.
Interestingly, the iPhone 4S has not made the list which is instead dominated by the company's flagship iPhone 5S with fingerprint sensor. It features eight times compared with two appearances (in second and eighth place) by the multi-colored iPhone 5C.
