Archbishop inaugurates SAMMAN

THE OFFICIAL installation of SAMMAN (Social Animation of Marginalised, Migrants And Nomads) took place in a simple ceremony on Sunday at Khrist Premalaya, Arera Colony.

The event was marked in the presence of 120 women SHG members of E-6 Arera Colony slums and the members of various institutions of Asha Niketan campus.

Archbishop of Bhopal Dr Pascal Topno, SVD INC-Provincial Rev Fr A S Durairaj, MP Minorities Commission member Ms Indira Iyengar, Director of Asha Niketan Social Welfare Centre Fr. Soosai P, the rector of Khrist Premalaya Fr Xavier T, and 11 women SHG members lit the lamp and unveiled the emblem of ‘SAMMAN’ symbolically and formally activated the organisation.

In his inaugural speech, Rev Pascal Topno appreciated the staff members of SAMMAN for taking initiative to organise the marginalised, migrants, women and street-children of the slums.

Fr Durairaj said he is confident the organisation under the guidance and supervision of Fr Albinus will positively cater to the needs of the target groups. Fr Soosai P congratulated the director of SAMMAN and conveyed him good wishes for taking up the challenging task to work for the needy.

The director of the organisation said that SAMMAN is currently involved in organising women who earn their living as domestic workers, rag-pickers and daily wagers and educating their children by organising bridge courses.
