Poudyal said he has decided to come out of a self-imposed retirement from active politics to lead the masses in restoring the participatory democratic system based on the principle of decentralisation of power.

Poudyal is one of the architects of the 1973 public uprising against the then Chogyal (king), who was forced to hand over executive power to an elected government later.

"The state politics has veered around two personalities Nar Bahadur Bhandari and Pawan Kumar Chamling in the past 30 years with the duo maintaining a total sway over their respective parties and their governments to have a one man rule in Sikkim," the 65-year-old leader told PTI in Gangtok.

"Both Bhandari and Chamling have been guilty of retaining total power with them by neither allowing a second rung of leadership nor making ministers and bureaucrats confident enough to take decision on even a minor matter," he claimed.
