Union Human Resources Development Minister Arjun Singh on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Simrol, some 25 km from Indore.

The IIT will come up in 525 acre of land at Simrol in five years time.

The IIT, Indore's academic session for 2009-10 will begin at the Institute of Engineering and Technology of Devi Ahilyabai University, here till it is shifted in its own building.
IIT Mumbai's Director and Registrar in the same capacities will look after IIT Indore as well, till new appointments to these posts are made.
With the laying of foundation stone, Indore has become the only city in the country to have both IIT and Indian Institute of Management (IIM).
