Senior Congress leader Arjun Singh on Monday appealed to people not to get carried away by a systematic campaign to project the BJP as the only party acceptable to all and its leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee as the unchallenged numero uno in the country.
Addressing a press conference in Bhopal, Singh said that it must be understood that it was not the BJP or Vajpayee who are calling the shots in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government, but it is the RSS out to further its divisive agenda and perpetuate its presence.
He said that Vajpayee had himself said, RSS is his soul and marginalised BJP leader Govindacharya had described him as a 'mask'.
Singh said people should explore relation of 'mask with the 'soul' before deciding their choice.
Singh cited several examples when according to him Vajpayee changed his stand on vital issues and alleged the group ruling the country in the name of NDA has no faith in the Constitution of India and the fundamental doctrines enshrined in it.
He further said that NDA has not kept a majority of its poll promises to people and a cursory look at its manifesto should suffice to establish the point.

{{/usCountry}}Singh said that the Congress, if voted to power, would harmonise all interests to provide a Government representing aspirations of every section of the society.
He reiterated his appeal to the Samajwadi Party to withdraw from the contest in MP to avoid division of secular votes. Singh also appealed to all the Congress leaders and workers, who deserted the party for one reason or the other, to join in the 'decisive battle to save democracy in the country'.
The veteran leader refuted the charge that senior Congress leaders from the State declined to contest elections fearing defeat and said he has had his innings and it was time for the young leaders to occupy the battlefield.
He said that they (senior leaders) are all there and would take the fight to its ultimate course.
Singh, however, said that he does not believe in guesswork on the number of seats party could get in MP, but he is confident that the party would make a comeback in an emphatic manner.
He also released an audio visual CD and a cassette prepared by the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) for campaigning in the state.
