Special Protection Group personnel held Harikrishan Sharma of a village near the Tappal intersection of the Yamuna Expressway when Gandhi was walking through in the morning.

Aligarh SSP Satyendraveer Singh said Sharma was on his motorcycle with his wife and had stopped to catch a glimpse of Gandhi.

Initial investigations revealed he had no intention of posing a threat to Gandhi, Singh said.

This is the second time the SPG has intercepted a civilian with a firearm close to Gandhi in UP.
