A defence spokesman said the troops of the army's 6 Rashtriya Rifles and the J&K Police in a joint operation on Saturday night busted the hideout in Rajwar Forest, Kupwara.

"A large quantity of arms, ammunition and other war-like stores were recovered," said the spokesman.

"This is the second hideout unearthed in the last three days in north Kashmir," said Srinagar-based army spokesman Lt Col J.S. Brar from Srinagar.

The recoveries from the Rajwar Forest area include 12-AK 47/56, one UBGL with eight sights, 694 rounds of AK ammunition, 63 belted ammunition of Pika, 40 UBGL grenadesm, 31 hand grenades and 50 magazines of AK 47/ 56.

The army also seized explosive material that included detonators, cordex, IED box, and switches.

"Communication and navigational equipment were also found in the hideout," said the spokesman.

"These recoveries are a big success for the security force and a blow to the nefarious designs of the terrorists to spread unrest in the Valley, particularly during the ongoing panchayat election," said Brar.
