Denying Pakistan army’s allegations that Indian soldiers crossed the Line of Control (LoC) near north Kashmir’s Uri area, the army on Sunday said Pakistan army resorted to unprovoked mortar shelling on two-three posts on Sunday morning.
According to the army, two-three posts perched over Haji Peer hill area came under heavy firing from Pakistani side in Uri, 106 km north of Srinagar, around 3.15 am on Sunday. Haji Peer is just four kilometres away from main Uri town.
"There was breach of ceasefire as Pakistan resorted to mortar shelling on Sunday morning. Our troops retaliated with small arms," Srinagar-based army spokesman Brijesh Pandey said.
The exchange of fire lasted for around one hour and 15 minutes. "Since 4.30 am, there was no exchange of fire all day," said Pandey adding, "there was no casualty on our side."
However, the army claimed that Pakistan shelling did damage some residential houses in Churandah village near Haji Peer.
In October 2012, three civilians were killed when Pakistan resorted to firing on the same village. Then Pakistan’s army accused the Indian soldiers of constructing bunkers in the area.
"There is no way one can construct bunkers in the area," Pandey said.
"There is no way one can construct bunkers in the area," Pandey said.
The army has also denied the Pakistan army’s allegations of soldiers cross the LoC into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. "Nobody crossed the LoC," Pandey said.
