Army Major caught taking bribe

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths yesterday caught Major Mohan Singh demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000. A case under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act was subsequently registered against Singh, an assistant garrison engineer of Military Engineering Services at Umroi Cantonment near Meghalaya capital Shillong.

“The complainant alleged that Singh was demanding Rs 50,000 for clearing pending bills and issuing fresh work order for maintenance. We laid a trap and caught him red-handed accepting half that amount as part payment,” a Shillong-based CBI officer said.
