Three additional columns of Army have been pressed into service in Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur in western Maharashtra, a defence department statement said.

Six heavy-duty army trucks are being provided to the local administration for the cleaning operations in Kalina and Andheri in Mumbai, which received continuous rainfall since last night.

An army column in Jui village of Mahad in Raigad district has extricated 48 bodies of those who died in a massive landslide following heavy rains last week.

Navy has sent 11 rescue and diving teams along with inflatable lifeboats and other rescue material for the rescue and relief operations in Mumbai and its surrounding areas. The teams have been kept at the disposal of civic administration, the statement said.

Three teams have been deployed in Borivali (north), while two teams are working in Air-India colony. Remaining teams have been kept as standby in Panvel town of Raigad district and police headquarters at Crawford market in South Mumbai.
