Army organises seminar on employment in Srinagar

The army today organised a daylong seminar on 'Self employment and entrepreneurial avenues in Kashmir' by Chinar Corps at BB Cantt. A huge number of graduates and post-graduates from Srinagar and far-flung areas of Kashmir participated in the seminar, according to the army spokesman.

A huge number of graduates and post-graduates from Srinagar and far-flung areas of Kashmir participated in the seminar, according to the army spokesman. The panel of experts threw light on diverse areas like banking Sector, public sector and private sector.

Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen Om Prakash, GOC Chinar Corps, said, "Kashmir is at the cusp of development and the government as well as other organizations are making serious efforts to give a boost to the development in the Valley."

The GOC said that while terrain may not be conducive for large scale industries, the scope for micro-small-medium enterprises is in plenty. "The youth bulge is the biggest asset of Kashmir and the need of the hour is to constructively engage and imaginatively employ the youth so that their fixation towards government jobs gets transformed into entrepreneurship initiatives," he said. JKEDI director MI Parray said that the youth of valley have come of age. "It is so encouraging to see overwhelming response from young men and women to take on entrepreneurship," he said.

Managing director Women Development Corporation Dr Naheed Soz spoke about the role of the corporation and its objectives. "The corporation is implementing number of developmental schemes for Socio-Economic Upliftment of Women with a special focus on the families living below poverty line (BPL) and women belonging to minorities, backward and other classes," she said.
