Though truck owners in the state had not joined the strike, they are not sending their vehicles to outside the state.

Being a consumer state, Kerala relies heavily on neighbouring states for rice, pulses, vegetables and poultry.

According to sources in Valayar check-post in Palakkad, the main entry point, only one third of normal to and fro goods movement had taken place today.

On an average, 2800 to 3100 trucks would pass up and down through the checkpost. This has sharply come down since the stir started.

According to market source, prices of essential commodities were likely soar in the event of the strike prolonging.

The strike is bound to have its impact in the construction sector too due to short supply of materials like cement, industry sources said.
