Cut-offs for humanities courses rose by as little as 0.5-2% on Monday. Colleges said most of the admissions were to honours courses in history, psychology and English.

On Tuesday, at least 23 aspirants gained admission to Kamla Nehru College's English honours course. Another 22 were admitted into the college's psychology honours course. On the other hand, only 10 aspirants sought admission to the BA (Hons) economics and BCom (Hons) courses that are considered to be in great demand.

"Aspirants take things slowly on the first day as they look around the varsity, trying to gauge their chances," Gitesh Nirban, media coordinator, Kamla Nehru College.

A lot of admissions at institutes such as Lady Shri Ram College were to honours courses in political science and history. Fewer turned up to get places in economics honours classes.

"On the first day, most admissions were to humanities courses such as history honours and psychology honours. Economics honours also saw a few admissions. But there were several applicants who sought admissions to English honours and BA (Programme)," said Kanika Khandelwal, media coordinator at LSR.

Most of the admissions at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College were to BCom (Hons) and BA (Hons) economics.
