THE QUICKFIRE century by Arvind guided Bhopal Cricket Academy (BCA) into the next round of the All India Mayank Chaturvedi Memorial Cricket tournament, being organised at Old Campion grounds, on Tuesday. BCA defeated VNS XI by 65 runs.
On the second day of the tournament, spectators witnessed BCA’s dominating performance against VNS. After winning the toss, VNS surprised spectators by deciding to field first. “It was a surprising decision as the pitch has been batsmen-friendly and the success rate of the batting first is higher than chasing the target,” said Rajesh Sisodiya, a spectator at the ground.
The BCA team exploited the opportunity. The opening pair, Virendra Vaidya and Arvind, gave a good start to the team by adding 80 runs for the first wicket. Arvind lost his wicket at the individual score of 38 runs. But his departure could not bring smile on the faces of VNS players as Vijay Shrivastava and Virendra stitched the biggest partnership for the second wicket of the tournament — 146 runs — so far.
Arvind scored 100 runs, including 17 boundaries and one six off 85 deliveries. He was the not the only batmen to play in this fashion. Such was the struggle of bowlers that Vijay Shrivastava scored 79 runs off 58 deliveries and Umesh scored 69 runs off 33 deliveries. With the help of their splendid batting, BCA scored 338 runs in stipulated 50 overs.

But the lack of support from the middle order in the final overs restricted team’s total to 273 runs for the loss of six wickets. VNS lost by 65 runs. Sameer Mirikar claimed two wickets for BCA.
VNS Institutes chairman Sanjay Pandey presented HT Man of the Match trophy to Arvind. Organising secretary Sushil Singh, Mahesh Prajapati, Suresh Chenani and others were present.
