An elderly woman claimed that Asaram was her husband as the self-styled godman was brought into a Jodhpur court on Monday for hearing in a rape case.
Asaram was inside the courtroom when the woman began shouting on the court campus that she was his wife.
"A woman appeared out of nowhere on the court campus and began shouting that Asaram was her husband. She said Asaram had married her at Ladnu area of Rajasthan's Nagaur district," said an eyewitness.
She was taken away by police. A police official said she was mentally challenged.
Asaram too dismissed the woman's claims.
Meanwhile, the district and sessions court adjourned the hearing of the rape case for a day.
Asaram is accused of raping a 15-year-old at his ashram in Jodhpur on August 15 last year. He is currently lodged in jail in Jodhpur.
The trial was to begin here on Monday. But district and sessions judge (Jodhpur rural) Manoj Kumar Vyas deferred the hearing after the victim's counsel opposed Asaram's plea for a video clipping of the FIR registering process.
"The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act does not permit providing such video clippings to the accused," advocate Pramod Kumar Verma told the court.
