Ashok Chaturvedi, an Indian Police Service officer of the 1970 batch, is expected to be the next head of the country's external intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).

One of the senior most officers in RAW, Chaturvedi will take over from PK Hormese Tharakan who retires Jan 31, sources said.
Chaturvedi, a Madhya Pradesh cadre officer, has handled many assignments, including the Bangladesh analysis section and was posted in Britain and Canada.
Among other contenders for the post were RAW special secretary, Ambar Sen and Delhi Police Commissioner KK Paul.
