Bhopal SP Anant Kumar Singh told the Hindustan Times that ASI Amar Singh had demanded Rs 50,000 as bribe from a person in connection with a police case.

The man, however, reported the matter to the Bhopal SP and a police team was formed under the leadership of CSP Jehangirabad Dilip Singh Tomar to trap the ASI.

Tomar said that complainant, Sudarshan Singh had been questioned in connection with a two-wheeler theft case some days ago. He was, however, allowed to go after initial interrogation, as he was found to be innocent, Tomar added.

Nonetheless, ASI Amar Singh of the crime branch telephoned Sudarshan the other day and warned him that police action could be initiated against him again and he should pay up Rs 50,000 if he wanted to stay away from the trouble.

As planned, the complainant reached the designated spot in a garage in the family block of the MLA rest house near Jehangirabad at about 6 pm. CSP Dilip Singh Tomar had signed the currency notes to be given to the ASI.

As soon as the complainant handed over the bribe to ASI Amar Singh, the police team nabbed the latter red-handed on the spot. The signed currency notes were recovered from the accused ASI’s possession.
