The flood situation in Assam remained grim on Saturday with water level of the Brahmaputra maintaining a rising trend inundating vast areas as one person was drowned.
Official reports reaching here said the situation remained grave in the districts of Dhubri, Goalpara, Barpeta, Morigaon, Dhemaji and Tinsukia as incessant rainfall resulted in the rise of water level.
Several portions of the road leading to Dhemaji was under water affecting road communication with the district while heavy erosion was taking place in Majuli, Asia's largest river island.
The first death in this year's flood was reported from Karimganj district where a man was drowned in the rising waters of Barak river.
The water level of the Brahmaputra flowing across the world famous Kaziranga national park, home to the famed one horned rhino, was also rising and some areas were under water forcing the animals to migrate to higher places.
A total of six districts have been so far affected in the floods.
