Major political parties, including the AGP and BJP, besides the All Assam Students Union (AASU), have held the government responsible for the massacre of 48 Hindi-speaking people by the ULFA in the state.

"The Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government in the state has no right to continue and has to resign owning moral responsibility", BJP state unit president Ramen Deka said.

The violence has proved once again that allegedly the ISI, with the help of the ULFA, has implemented its plan to scare away people from other states who are residing here and make way for Bangladeshi migrants to settle, Deka alleged.

Demanding strong action against the ULFA, he charged the Congress governments both at the Centre and the state of not being sincere in bringing the outfit to the negotiating table.

"The process has reached a stalemate due to the selfish design of the Congress, who are only interested to protect their vote bank comprising Bangladeshi infiltrators", he alleged.

The influential AASU condemned the killing and feared that in the event of a mass exodus of Hindi-speaking people a vacuum will be created which will enable the Bangladesh migrants to settle.
