Assam: Junior doc arrested for lady doc's murder

A junior doctor was on Wednesday arrested for the murder of a fellow student at Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh on the basis of the statement of the hospital’s ward boy.

A junior doctor was on Wednesday arrested for the murder of a fellow student at Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh on the basis of the statement of the hospital’s ward boy.

The doctor was produced in the CJM court, Dibrugarh and the court remanded him to police custody for seven days. Police initially arrested a ward boy in connection with the murder of the lady doctor on duty in the college hospital.

“Dipmoni Saikia, a post graduate student of AMCH has been arrested after enough evidences were found about his involvement in murder of the lady doctor on duty”, said Rana Bhuyan, SP of Dibrugarh district.

Dr Sarita Toshniwal (24), a post graduate medical student of the AMCH was murdered at the intensive care unit (ICU) of gynaecology department on May 9.
After checking the mobile call lists police found Sarita and Dipmoni were in contact till April. Police said Dipmoni used to send SMSs to Sarita. The marriage of Sarita was fixed for July 7 with a fellow-doctor Roshan Agarwal, who is also undergoing his PG course at the AMCH.

Sarita’s body was discovered by nurses in a pool of blood at the ICU bed.
