State Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told reporters in Guwahati that the state government has urged the Centre to ensure that passengers of trains to and from Assam passing through Bihar and Bengal were not affected in retaliatory violence following ULFA attacks on migrant people from those states.

In addition to the 120 companies of CRPF already deployed in the state, Sarma said, 78 companies were sought from the Centre.

The 24 CRPF companies providing security for the autonomous district council polls being held in Karbi Anglong district on Saturday, would be rushed to violence hit Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts immediately after the voting was over, he said.

State ministers Pradyut Bordoloi and Prithivi Majhi, Director General of Police and the Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) had rushed to the two districts, the Health minister said, adding that he would be going there tomorrow to supervise the medical treatment given to the injured.
