The Madras high court on Sunday granted anticipatory bail to union minister MK Alagiri in connection with the alleged assault of an election official and a videographer at a village in the district.

Justice K Venkataraman granted the bail to the union minister for chemicals & fertilisers on condition to appear before the police for inquiry as and when required.
Azhagiri did not apply for anticipatory bail on Saturday along with city deputy mayor P M Mannan and two others, also booked in the case.
Alagiri was allegedly present when tahsildar M Kalimuthu, who is the assistant returning officer for Melur Assembly segment, and a videographer were allegedly assaulted by DMK activists.
