AN ASSAULT on eve-teasers by women sparked off a group clash at Belari crossing, under Bikapur kotwali police station.

Timely intervention by police officials averted a communal flare-up.
Reports reaching here said two dozen persons belonging to two groups were arrested and about half-a-dozen persons were admitted to hospital following violence.
Trouble began after half-a-dozen youths misbehaved with a girl who was returning home to Chintaura village after appearing in an examination.
The news spread like wildfire. A large number of villagers, including women, chased the eve-teasers and gave them a thrashing.
Soon, the eve-teasers’ supporters, armed with staves, appeared on the scene. A clash between the two groups followed.
Four persons suffered injuries and were admitted to hospital. A car owner Ramji Verma was also attacked by miscreants.
Senior superintendent of police Neera Rawat, additional district magistrate (Administration) Dr RM Misra and subdivisional magistrate SC Chaudhari, accompanied by Provincial Armed Constabulary and civil police personnel, rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
