Meghalaya Governor RS Mooshahary will address on Monday the crucial Assembly session which will decide the fate of the beleaguered ruling NCP-led Meghalaya Progressive Alliance on March 17.
Mooshahary will address the inaugural session even though he had earlier expressed reservations on doing so, contending that his speech would be irrelevant if the government falls during the trust vote on Tuesday.
Chief Minister Donkupar Roy has, however, expressed confidence that the ruling alliance would survive the floor test. "We are in touch with those who deserted us. Negotiations are moving positively," he said last night.
Roy, however, alleged that one of the MLAs who left the MPA wanted to come back, but he was scared. "Its too risky for me to return," the chief minister quoted the MLA as saying.
On the other hand, the Congress also claimed the MPA would collapse on Tuesday. The MPA will feel the final blow on Tuesday, a Congress spokesman said.
Even though there has been speculation of a possible Congress-NCP tie-up after indications from NCP leader P A Sangma, Opposition leader D D Lapang has denied receiving any proposal from the NCP.
However, sources in the Congress have ruled out such an arrangement as of now.
