Chinese New YearChinese New Year

The Chinese celebrate New Year between January 17 and February 19. The period is known as Yuan Tan. Red Chinese lanterns are a common sight across China around this time.

Scottish NewYear
The New Year in Scotland is called Hogmanay. One can find barrels of tar set on fire, and rolled down the streets of Scotland. This ritual symbolises that the old year is burnt and New Year is going to begin.

Thai New Year
In Thailand, the New Year goes by the name, Songkran. It falls in the month of April. Various rituals are performed to welcome the New Year. The most important is to throw water on each other to purify souls.

Tibetan New Year
Buddhists celebrate New Year in February. Temples and shrines are decorated with symbolic figures; milk, butter, tea, flour, and similar offerings are brought by the worshippers.
