Incensed by the recent attempt on the life of Xavier Rutsa, correspondent of the Nagaland Post and treasurer of the Kohima Press Club, mediapersons from across the state gathered in Kohima on Friday to demand action against those responsible for the attack.

A series of journalists' meetings held yesterday decided to resort to take "serious action" if the government failed to arrest those responsible for the attack. The scribes also decided to ask militant factions to explain the reasons behind the attempt on the life of the scribe, if they were behind the attack. Journalists who reached there soon after the incident reported seeing several armed persons leaving the area.
Earlier in the morning, mediapersons staged a sit-in outside the Nagaland Legislative Assembly to express their outrage over the attempt on Rutsa. The journalist was shot at on Thursday in the heart of the town.
Various social organisations, including the Naga Hoho, Naga Students'
Federation (NSF) and the Naga Mothers' Association also joined the dharna.
