“The BJP Government is openly backing the Hindu fundamentalists who are out to terrorise the minorities, specially Christians, in the State”, alleged leader of Opposition Jamuna Devi while talking to newspersons here today.

She said Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan wants to outdo Uma Bharti as hardcore Hindutva leader and in pursuance of this policy, he is backing the perpetrators of violence against the minorities. The blatant manner in which government machinery was misused to transport innocent tribals from Dhar and Jhabua districts for the VHP-sponsored Shabri Kumbh congregation at Dang (Gujarat) only proved this point, she added.

Jamuna Devi said that mismanagement of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme is also a major issue that the Congress will raise in the Assembly forcefully.

Demanding prohibition in tribal districts, the veteran Congress leader alleged that liquor contractors, in collusion with the Excise Department, had unleashed a reign of terror against tribals. Also, several persons in Dhar district either died or turned blind after consuming spurious hooch.

She also demanded from the State Government a record of number of tribals incarcerating in jails in liquor-related cases.
Spate of abductions, the Morena bus tragedy and rise in incidents of idol-thefts would be other issues to be raised, said the leader of Opposition.
