Attention! Armymen go to IIM-L classes

FIFTY-SIX YEAR-old Brig MS Dhillon is competing with his son. After having served the armed forces for 33 strenuous years, Brig Dhillon has now ?taken a position? at IIM-L to pursue the six months general management training (GMT) course in order to arm himself with corporate managerial skills. Interestingly, his son is also doing MBA from another B-school.

FIFTY-SIX YEAR-old Brig MS Dhillon is competing with his son. After having served the armed forces for 33 strenuous years, Brig Dhillon has now ‘taken a position’ at IIM-L to pursue the six months general management training (GMT) course in order to arm himself with corporate managerial skills. Interestingly, his son is also doing MBA from another B-school.

So are you competing with your son? Brig Dhillon laughs and says: “Maybe! But, I don’t take it that way. Had I known about the grandness of this institute I would have encouraged my son to study here.” He is one of the 60 officers who have been selected by the Director General Resettlement, Ministry of Defence for the course.

Brig Dhillon disclosed another secret. “For the first time, I’ll be enjoying college life,” he said. He joined the armed forces when he was in Class X. So he never had the opportunity to get into college and enjoy college life.

“But I’m happy that I got the opportunity to study in this institute and stay here for next six months,” said Brig Dhillon. He exudes confidence that he would be able to adapt to the environs here quickly. “In armed forces we’re taught to adapt to the situation fast,” he said.

She said she was the only lady officer to have participated in the Operation Kargil. Maj Sharma has all praise for the lush green beautiful IIM-L campus. Lt Commander Sindhu, who is a station officer of INS Dronacharya, Kochi stated that after completing this course she would become more orgnaised. Pass outs of the previous batch inspired her to do this course as this would brighten her prospects.

Maj Vikram, who is a decorated solider of 119 Assault Engineer Regiment and special group commander, a part of NSG is happy for being selected by the DGR for this course. “I’ve already taken the best of the Army and this course would be immense help to get the best from the corporate world,” said Maj Vikram.

“It would give an insight into understanding others better. In addition once we arm ourselves with the latest tool in the corporate world we can use that judiciously in our services as well,” said a participant.
