Attracting tourists to the banks of Ganga

THE STATE government will soon introduce water sports on the banks of the Ganga to attract tourists to the city. Besides, a proposal worth Rs 5 crore is in the pipeline for beautification of the historic Phool Bagh.

Stating this, Tourism Minister Kokab Hamid said that funds would not be a problem in the way of implementation of these projects.

Hamid said the proposal for beautification of Phool Bagh was pending with the State government and a nod was expected soon in this direction.

Hamid was here to take part in a meeting of Rashtriya Lok Dal workers.
He said the State government had cleared tourism development projects worth Rs 6.22 crore, out of which Rs 3.5 crore had been earmarked for beautification and renovation of various projects on the banks of the Ganga in the city. Similarly, he said Rs 50 lakh each had been earmarked for Tapeshwari Devi and Vaibhav Lakshmi temples in the city besides Rs 5 lakh sanctioned for the Maqdoom Shah Baba shrine.

Hamid said that Rs 50 and Rs 10 lakh had been earmarked for Kuthmanda Temple in Ghatampur and Gupta era temple at Bheetar Gaon respectively.
Stressing the seriousness of the government towards development of Bithoor as a tourist spot, Hamid said Rs 10 lakh had been sanctioned for construction of Bithoor-Shivrajpur road.

Hamid said the Archaeological department had found evidences of Mahabharat era in five districts including Baghpat and Sonipat and on the basis of the ASI report, the State Government had sent a proposal to build Mahabharat Circuit to the Centre.
