A FUNCTION to felicitate Prof Hari Dutt Sharma of Allahabad University’s Department of Sanskrit was held in the Oriental Hall on Tuesday on his return to the varsity after attending the 13th World Sanskrit Conference held recently in Scotland.

Prof Sharma, on the occasion, threw light over the history of the organisation of World Sanskrit Conference and gave a detailed description of international Sanskrit conferences.
Delivering a lecture on ‘Sanskrit Studies Abroad’, he said that different forms of Sanskrit teachings and researches are going on in various countries of the world like Germany, France, America, England, Canada, Italy, Thailand and Mauritius among others.
He informed students and teachers about various International Sanskrit Centres, literature and journals, and also narrated interesting events during his foreign visits related with Sanskrit.
Dr Sharma displayed several photographs, letters and documents and donated his newly published book from Delhi Sanskrit Academy to the Department.
Head of the AU Sanskrit Department Prof Mridula Tripathi welcomed all the guests while Dr Umakant Yadav proposed the vote of thanks.

Candidates securing 75 and above marks in PGAT 2006 and defaulters are also required to report on August 10 at 1 pm, failing which they will forfeit their claim for admission.
Chemistry department: Few seats of general and SC/ST category are lying vacant. Candidate having secured 98 or above in the general category and 51 or above in the SC category in PGAT-2006 and the employees wards, teachers wards, physically handicapped, and in sports quota may report for admission on August 12, at 11 am in the Chemistry Department.
PG Physics department: General candidates securing 86 marks or above and all SC candidates who appeared in PGAT-2006 seeking admission to MSc (physics) should report on August 11, at 10 am at the department library.
