AU students go on relay fast

ALLAHABAD UNIVERSITY students went on relay fast at the AU Registrar Office and handed over a memorandum to AU Vice-Chancellor in support of their demands here on Saturday. Student leader Dr Nirbhay Singh Patel led the protesting students while Ziya Quonain Rizvi conducted the proceeding of the protest. The were protesting the reduction in seats in higher education. Speaking on the occasion Dr Patel said that the AU administration should give up its stubborn attitude and follow the suggestion of President APJ Abdul Kalam to increase the seats in higher education.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Patel said that the AU administration should give up its stubborn attitude and follow the suggestion of President APJ Abdul Kalam to increase the seats in higher education.

Rizvi threatened to stop the admission process if the varsity admission neglected their demands. Munna Singh Yadav and Harish Chandra Patel said that the students would continue fast until death if no action was taken by the AU administration to fulfil their demands.

Many student leaders extended their support to the fasting students and warned of intensifying the protest. Those present on the occasion were Ripusoodan Yadav, Shiv Kumar Verma, Lalaram Saroj, Aditya Vikram, Ajit Bhaskar, Madhukar Shukla, Lavkush Yadav, Hasnain Ahmed and Ashutosh Yadav among others.

They demanded the AU administration to revoke the decision of reduction in seats, implementation of Central fee structure in the varsity, immediate distribution of fellowship and research material to the research scholars and declaration of post graduate admission test.

Speaking on the occasion Verma said that the students will not hesitate in staging intense demonstration if the AU administration fails to fulfil their demands.

Those present on the occasion were Amar Singh Yadav, Rajesh Yadav, Santosh Yadav, Kaushal Kishore Patel, Dharmendra Kumar Yadav, Govind Vallabh Patel, Dharmendra Singh Patel, Dr Satiram Yadav, Awadhesh Yadav, Banke Lal Patel and Shiv Kumar Verma among others.

Lecture series
The intellectual wing of Jai Hind Solidarity (Jai Hind Foundation) will organise a centenary lecture series on ‘Azadi evam Azad - Dasha, Durdasha evam Disha’ at Nirala Sabhagar of Allahabad University (AU) on Sunday.

Former professor of Allahabad University Medieval and Modern History Department Prof CP Jha would be the chief guest, while Prof Sushil Srivastava would preside over the programme. Allahabad University Teachers’ Association (Y) president Dr Yogeshwar Tiwari, Prof Herambh Chaturvedi and Prof Lalit Joshi will be the chief speakers on the occasion.

MONIRBA notice
Co-ordinator MBA Admissions Dr Ramendu Roy said that the first MBA admission test of MONIRBA for the session 2006-07, after the University assuming Central Status is being held on July 16, 2006 at MONIRBA from 11 am to 2 pm.

Till last session, admissions used to be made through UPMCAT. In all, 680 candidates have applied for admission this time, out of which 45 shall be appearing from the Delhi Centre and the rest from Allahabad. MONIRBA, Chatham Lines shall be the centre for the written test, where candidates are required to report at 10.30 am.
