The Aurangabad police are seeking details from the Jalna RTO to identify the owner of the SUV, driven by senior NCP leader Qadeer Maulana's teenage son, which crushed a five year-old-girl to death.
The 17-year-old, who drove the car while the driver sat beside him, crushed baby Navya to death and injured her three-year-old sister Sayali and uncle Shirish Sonawane as the three made their way to a temple.
The police said that the boy was “learning (to drive) the vehicle on his birthday.” The tragic incident was captured on close circuit television cameras installed near the Hudco TV Centre chowk.
“He lost control of the vehicle, it appears that he stepped on the accelerator instead of the clutch,” said Pratap Baviskar, senior inspector of Cidko police station.
“The preliminary probe suggests that the car belongs to an acquaintance of the teenager’s elder brother,” Baviskar added.
However, sources claimed that the ownership of the vehicle is disputed. While it was registered in the name of a person from Jalna, the papers of the bank that sanctioned the loan for it, state the ownership belongs to a company where the teenager’s brother is a partner.
The teenager was produced before a juvenile court while the second accused, Mohammed Amar Chaus who was seated next to the boy at the time of the incident, was produced in a local court on Wednesday.

{{/usCountry}}While the duo was granted bail, Sonawane has been discharged from hospital. Sayali is recuperating in a private hospital in Aurangabad.
“The accident may involve a party leader's kin but it's not a party issue. The law will take its course and the is guilty will face action,” said NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik.
