Additional Collector Renu Pant on Monday personally went to see the girl, admitted to the Chacha Nehru Children’s Hospital here on January 10, and after obtaining information about her, issued directives for proper treatment, an official release said here.

According to Chacha Nehru Hospital Superintendent Dr Sharad Thora, “The girl has a special type of paralysis which is called Golenbari Syndrome (GSB). Every month, the hospital gets 3-4 patients suffering from this disease, who get well in maximum 4-5 months.”

“It is a mere coincident that Varsha was affected with GSB after she was administered polio drop on January 7. But this disease has got no connection whatsoever with polio. We have sent her stool culture for tests,” Dr Thora added in the release.

A few hours later, she developed problems and was not even able to stand on her own. Her parents first took her to the District Hospital from where they shifted her to the Chacha Nehru Children’s Hospital on January 10.
