Holding banners and placards, children from various schools participated in an awareness rally against HIV/AIDS to mark the 'World AIDS Day' in Jammu on Friday.
The J&K Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses (JKSPYM) organised this AIDS awareness rally as a part of its calendar activities.
IGP SP Vaid flagged off the rally from its assembling point at near Kala Kendra, Jammu. The children holding placards and banners depicting the slogans to create awareness among people about AIDS marched through the Vikram Chowk, Dogra Chowk, Jewel Chowk and then arrived at the culminating point the Rajinder Memorial park at canal head.
Earlier after flagging off the rally, SP Vaid, in his address highlighted various aspects of the issue and underlined only awareness could prevent the menace of HIV/AIDS.
Rakesh Thakur, the organiser and project secretary of JKSPYM, Jammu, in his address briefed about the calendar year activities to generate awareness about HIV/AIDS and said that this year the theme of the year is 'Stop AIDS- Keep The Promise' but with 'Accountability' of the concerned agencies working for the purpose.
This theme will be carried on till 2010 to make the concerned agencies accountable to work for the cause of mankind and to combat HIV/AIDS with giving due respect to the victims without any discrimination.
