SAHYOG, A legal cell working under the Diocesan Development and Welfare Society (DDWS) will organise an awareness rally on December 9, from Subhash Crossing, Civil Lines to 1, Tashkent Marg, followed by a public discussion and hearing on ‘Right to food’. The rally is one of the several programmes to be held to observe Human Rights Day on December 10.

Villagers from three blocks of Allahabad, including Koraon, Soraon and Shankergarh, along with slum-dwellers of the city were expected to put forth their grievances regarding the malfunctioning of the Public Distribution System and other public welfare schemes in their respective areas before the commissioner, district magistrate and other administrative officials, at the meeting. According to Sr Sheeba Jose, convenor of the organisation, the rally was being organised as part of the campaign ‘Voice of the voiceless’. Meanwhile, activists of Socialist Front, Allahabad, have decided to stage a dharna at Subhash Crossing, Civil Lines on Sunday.
They would demand a ban on capital punishment, repealing of Armed Forces (Special Power) Act as well as air opinion on issues relating to empowerment of women, sharing the yield of national and scientific prosperity, etc. A memorandum would also be given to the local MP for raising these issues in Parliament.
