But on Wednesday, Ayesha’s father, Ahmed Siddiqui, told HT that he was tired of these allegations.

"My daughter wanted a public divorce and that is what she got. There was no money involved. These baseless statements of a Rs 15 crore settlement are upsetting," he said. Siddiqui has just undergone a bypass surgery and has been advised bed rest.

"Ask anyone who was involved in the divorce, including Sania’s uncle, if we have taken a penny. My daughter was in hell for the last eight years and all she wanted was freedom," he added.

The whole Ayesha-Shoaib Malik controversy went on for a week and finally after hectic negotiations, which involved community leaders, divorce papers were signed. Mediators said that Malik gave Rs 15,000 settlement as per Islamic law, which also Ayesha refused but they forced her to take.
