A genuine all-rounder, Azhar Mahmood has delivered the goods in one-day and Test cricket. He got off to a smashing start in his first two Test innings when he scored unbeaten knocks of 128 and 50 against South Africa in 1997-98.

His ability to strike blows and bowl tight overs should have made him a huge asset for the Pakistan team but he was upstaged by Abdul Razzaq in the one-dayers. But he has become a regular member of the Pakistan squad, where his hard-hitting batting and ability break partnerships has proved especially useful.
