Pakistan cricketing legend Imran Khan on Wednesday said that former Indian captain Mohammed Azharuddin's participation in the ongoing India-Pakistan veterans' cricket series was not a major issue.
Imran said veterans' cricket was all about fun and the participation of Azharuddin, who has been banned for life by the Indian Cricket Board on match-fixing allegations, should not be taken very seriously.
"It's basically fun cricket and one must not take Azharuddin's participation in it very seriously," Imran said.
"In fact, I wonder who are the people who go to watch old men play cricket. I fear that someone would collapse on the field one day," Imran said while questioning the crowd-pulling factor in veterans' cricket.
Several unfortunate incidents have occurred in the past during the conduct of veterans' sporting events.
While former Pakistan fast bowler Niaz Ahmed died of a cardiac arrest shortly after playing a veteran's cricket match in Karachi, ex-captain of Pakistan hockey team Munawwar-uz-Zaman died on the ground while playing a veterans' game.
