Shirke, who headed the B G Shirke group known in the construction industry, had started his business with a humble beginning in 1944 and saw it expanding over the decades.

He was recipient of many awards for excellence in construction of various projects and was also associated with a number of organisations working for social welfare.

Union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar who was here, hailed Shirke's contribution to the construction industry saying he introduced modern technology in the field and was a source of inspiraton for younger generation of builders.
