BA starts price war

Initiating a price war in the India-UK sector, British Airways (BA) has offered huge discounts across its cabin class for what it calls the celebration of its 80th anniversary in India reports Lalatendu Mishra.

Initiating a price war in the India-UK sector, British Airways (BA) has offered huge discounts across its cabin class for what it calls the celebration of its 80th anniversary in India.

The airline is offering an all inclusive return economy fare starting Rs 28,200 to London from five Indian cities. A business class ticket starts from Rs 114,100 and a first class ticket from Rs 192,500.

The current market price by other airlines is above Rs 50,000 for the economy class and Rs 124,000 for business class. The average price in May 2010 for economy return ticket is around Rs 37,000.

BA has also announced special fares in the India- Europe and India-US sectors. It has also offered combined airfare and hotel deals at an attractive prices to lure flyers.

“This is a great milestone for us and we want to thank our customers for their support and loyalty over the years,” said Judy Jarvis, regional commercial manager, South Asia, British Airways in a statement.

The special fares for London are available for booking till January 31, 2010 and the travel is valid upto June 30, 2010. For Europe and the US the offer for booking would close on 28 February 2010.
