JAN MORCHA President Raj Babbar today accused the Samajwadi Party government of indulging in rigging in urban local bodies elections and demanded imposition of President’s rule to ensure free and fair Vidhan Sabha poll.
The Jan Morcha would not allow Mulayam Singh Yadav to continue as caretaker chief minister, said Babbar. If Yadav was allowed to continue as caretaker chief minister, the Jan Morcha would launch a statewide agitation, he said. A delegation of Jan Morcha constituents would meet the President after November 14 to apprise him of the developments in UP and demand President’s rule. There was no rule to allow a care taker chief minister. Instead, this was a tradition, he said.
Raj Babbar was talking to mediapersons before launching the third phase of the Dadri Mukti Sangram Yatra here today. The third phase of the Yatra would begin from Unnao and pass through Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Auraiya, Etawah, Firozabad, Mainpuri and Farrukhabad, he said. The Jan Morcha’s campaign against Mulayam Singh Yadav government was yielding results, Babbar asserted, adding that this had been reflected in the civic poll results. The electorate had negated the Samajwadi Party all over the State. The SP candidates failed to perform well in the districts falling on the route of the Sangram Yatra. The SP candidate lost deposit in Agra, he said.
Babbar also flayed the SP for what he called its collusion with the BJP to prevent the Congress from winning the poll. The SP was extending tacit help to the Bharatiya Janata Party. In Lucknow alone, nearly 37,000 votes had been declared invalid and at many places Muslims were not allowed to cast their votes, he said. There was no confusion among the Muslim voters but a section of the Muslim leaders may try to confuse the minority community, he stated.
