On getting the information, the Chakeri police rushed to the spot and took the three accused in their custody.

The enraged residents also put up a road blockade demanding compensation to the affected family and a probe into the matter. The incident took place at 11 this morning.

Residents said that 20-day-old Radha, daughter of Rajkumar and a resident of Mona Nagar area of Jajmau under Chakeri police station was administered polio drops by the health department’s mobile team comprising Anjali, Anju and CK Nishad.

The condition of the infant girl started deteriorating as soon as she swallowed the polio drops and died even before she could be rushed to a nearby hospital, alleged residents.

The news of the infant’s death spread like wildfire in the locality and the nearby residents immediately swung into action. They caught hold of the three voluntary members of the pulse polio programme and confined them in a house.

It is pertinent to mention that as per the health department’s scheme, a door-to-door campaign is launched after the booth campaign, which concluded in this phase on September 10.
