Backward districts lead

CONTRARY TO general perceptions, the backward districts in MP have attracted more investments than big cities with Sagar leading the tally, according to Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), a Mumbai-based economic and business information research organisation.

The CMIE in its September edition of the monthly review of Madhya Pradesh economy said that projects worth Rs 10,304 crore are ‘under implementation’ in Sagar district followed by Rs 4,721.47 crore in Sidhi, Rs 4,211.42 crore in Umaria, Rs 2,348 crore in Khargone and projects worth Rs 2,224.73 crore in Khandwa district.

Sidhi, one of the most-backward districts in the State, promises to emerge as big industry hub with total ‘coming-up’ investment of Rs 17,790.83 crore followed by Rs 10,893.22 crore in Sagar, Rs 6,815.87 crore in Khandwa Rs 6,717.42 crore in Umaria and Rs 2,354.14 crore in Khargone. Investments and project implementation, says the report, are mostly in road construction, manufacturing, mining, power plants, services, irrigation and construction.
