Backwards being denied farming land

These were some facts revealed in a public hearing, conducted jointly by People’s Vigilance Committee for Human Right (PVCHR) and Savitri Bai Phule Mahila Panchayat at district Headquarters in Varanasi on Thursday.

Members of Musahar community from Belva village under Badagaon development block and Shivrampur village under Harahua development blocks participated in the public hearing.

It has come to light that Munib, son of landless Mushra Gulab and resident of Belva village, died due to malnutrition on May 29. The PVCHR claimed maximum percentage of landless members belonged to Mushar and Nat communities.

Dr Lenin, coordinator of PVCHR, said wards of 13 landless families were victims of malnutrition in Shivrampur village. He added about eight members of Gaud community, four from Kalwar community, seven from Rajbhar community, five from Chauhan community, two from Maurya community, five from Nut community, 23 from Harijan community and 12 from Muslim community were deprived of farming lands in Shivrampur village.
