A day after questioning the role of Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal during Operation Bluestar, state Congress leader Amarinder Singh on Wednesday accused the Akali stalwart of asking the Union government for military action at the Golden temple to contain militant leader Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale.
In an open letter to the CM, Singh even cited March 28, 1984 as the date when Badal had a meeting with the then Union home minister P V Narasimha Rao, at a Delhi guest house, which was also attended by the cabinet secretary, home secretary and principal secretary to the chief minister.

"I say that the project of the meeting was to convey to him your concern at the situation in the Darbar Sahib and to ask the government to take military action," Singh wrote, referring to the government’s ‘white paper on the Punjab Agitation’ published in Delhi on July 10, 1984.
He further questioned Badal what was the reason for meeting the union home minister all alone on March 28, 1984.
He said "In your usual evasive manner, your spokesman has said that you had met the Prime Minister much earlier. That was not my question," Amarinder said, seeking explanation over Badal’s one to one meeting with Narasimha Rao, instead of taking along Gurcharan Singh Tohra and Surjit Singh Barnala as well for the talks.
