A medical board — set up by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probing the rape and murder of two teenage girls in Badaun — will soon begin its proceedings to decide if fresh autopsies are required by exhuming their bodies.
The CBI probe detected certain significant anomalies in the way the postmortems were done by Uttar Pradesh doctors, hence set up the board.
“A doctor who had no prior experience conducted the postmortem. We are not convinced with the findings,” said a CBI source.
According to the source there were several other anomalies – the postmortem was conducted in the night, the doctor used the term ‘rape’ in his report.
“Rape is a legal word, not a medical term. We asked the doctor why it was used but got no satisfactory reply,” added the source.
The victims were buried as per the local customs since they were minors and unmarried.
The medical board comprises three doctors working with Delhi-based government hospitals and has been tasked to find out if the autopsy doctors followed procedure.
“The medical board will have its first meeting early this week, in which the postmortem reports and versions of the UP doctors will be scrutinised,” said the source.

{{/usCountry}}In case the medical board recommends fresh autopsies where the bodies will have to exhumed, the CBI will have to take the trial court’s permission for the same.
