Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on Thursday criticised the Sri Rama Sene for “backtracking” on the Valentine Day protests saying the pink undergarments that they received forced them to change their mind.
“It was a good campaign but they were not able to sustain it. What will the Sri Rama Sene do with those pink gifts now that they have stopped the campaign? Wear them and enter pubs?” taunted Thackeray.
Sri Rama Sene, whose acts of moral policing in Mangalore evoked nationwide ire, had received loads of pink undergarments as a mark of protest for the pub attacks.
Taking a shot at the pub culture among the youth, Thackeray, who was speaking to news channels, said the new generation is getting wasted due to the pub culture.
“Freedom fighters have laid down their lives to achieve independence for this country. Was this the freedom we fought for?” he said. He urged the youth not to forget the Indian culture and values and the heritage and history of Maharashtra.
Terming the ruling government as “criminal and useless”, he said heritage forts and statues of eminent personalities in the state were in a state of disrepair and the government was neglecting them.
