Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly on Tuesday dubbed as 'over-enthusiasm' Lakshmipathy Balaji's excessive appealing during the Mohali Test which saw him being docked 30 per cent of his match fee.
"He is young. He is over enthusiastic. But then one has to obey the ICC rules and regulations," Ganguly told newspersons.
The Indian captain said the team management has already spoken to Balaji on the issue.
"Such mistakes happen in the course of the match. But now he has to be careful," Ganguly said.
Balaji was found guilty of excessive appealing by ICC Match Referee Chris Broad in a hearing attended by the bowler, India team coach John Wright, umpires Darrell Hair and Rudi Koertzen and TV umpire K Hariharan at the conclusion of the Indo-Pak Test on Sunday.
Balaji, who took nine wickets in the drawn match, was found to have breached level 1.5 of the ICC Code which relates to excessive appealing.
The charge was brought by Hair, Koertzen and Hariharan.
