An estimated 3.78 crore voters, including 1.80 crore women, are likely to exercise their franchise to decide the fate of 2171 candidates.

The elections, the first after bifurcation of the state resulting in formation of separate Chhattisgarh, will decide whether the longest serving Chief Minister Digvijay Singh will have a third term or his arch-rival BJP's Uma Bharti will take the baton from him.

Digvijay is contesting from Raghogarh in Guna district and Bharti from Bada Malhera in Bundelkhand region.

BJP is contesting all the 230 seats and Congress 229. BSP, Samajwadi Party and NCP have also put up candidates in several constituencies.
