Claiming that there was no unanimity in surveys and exit polls which were at times "stage-managed", Chief Minister V B Singh on Tuesday demanded a ban on such polls and that these be brought under the model code of conduct.

"Results of exit and opinion polls were appearing in news papers and TV channels every day but there was no unanimity in surveys and exit polls conducted by different agencies. Not only do such surveys mislead people but also are at times stage-managed," he told an election rally in Solan district.

He said "the people had made up their mind to oust the NDA government at the Centre as it had failed to deliver during the past six years and were totally disenchanted".

The Chief Minister said the "wrong" policies of the BJP had "created unemployment and increased poverty" and added that the nation could not be befooled by the "false and unfulfilled promises" of the NDA government.

Accusing the BJP of mismanaging the financial position of the state, Singh said the debt burden of the government had mounted to Rs 15,000 crore while the NDA government "squandered" the money by "utilizing" Rs 1000 crore for its advertisement and publicity campaign.
